PPC de Hoek | 2024 | De Hoek, South Africa
Kiln Main Burner Commissioning
Served as commissioning engineer for recommissioning of a Polflame VN kiln main burner at PPC de Hoek (Kiln 6), including inspection of the installed burner and peripherals, signal checks and leakage testing, supervision of kiln heat-up using diesel, and operational stabilization during restart. Completed on-site troubleshooting and minor modifications on auxiliary systems and delivered hands-on operator training focused on burner settings and commissioning parameters.

Diagnostic and Alignment Services for Girth Gear
Conducted on-site assessment of persistent girth-gear vibration on a 3.8 m x 13.5 m cement ball mill, including comparative vibration measurements at drive-end and non-drive-end bearings and review of prior supplier measurements. Identified indications of gear misalignment and runout/backlash deviations against tolerances, and issued a corrective action plan covering alignment verification, contact pattern checking, lubrication and vibration follow-up, and compliance re-validation after adjustments.

REMAS Ball Mill Overhaul
Provided on-site support on behalf of Christian Pfeiffer for an urgent reliability intervention after overheating of the drive-end trunnion bearing. Stabilized the trunnion bearing lubrication system (HP/LP circuits), including HP pump overhaul and continuous-operation configuration, restoration of interlocks, commissioning of oil heaters and radiator control, and instrumentation checks. Investigated drivetrain vibration, removed foreign objects from the gear coupling, replaced the pinion assembly using on-site spares, recommissioned girth-gear spray lubrication, and delivered operator monitoring and spare-parts guidance.

Comprehensive Inspection of Girth Gear and Symetro Gear
Performed on-site supervisory services for a comprehensive mechanical condition inspection of raw mill and rotary kiln drive systems. Scope included endoscopic tooth checks, backlash and root-clearance verification, laser alignment checks, vibration and temperature measurements including thermography, and lubrication sampling with cleanliness assessment. Consolidated findings into a structured inspection report with prioritized recommendations for reliability improvement and risk mitigation.

Kiln Line 2 Main Burner: Heat-up to Full-Production Optimisation and On-the-Job Training
Provided on-site kiln and combustion support for Kiln Line 2 during heat-up, ramp-up, and stabilization, including structured on-the-job training. Scope covered pre-arrival review of process and quality data, baseline assessment of the preheater, kiln, main burner and primary air system, cooler air balance, draft control, and coal transport/feeding system. Supported daily optimization of burner settings, air and fuel dosing to improve stability and throughput, and delivered a daily optimization log, consolidated technical report with KPI trends and prioritized action plan, plus post-visit remote support.
TEMACLAY GHANA | 2026 | Tema, Ghana
Kiln Main Burner Commissioning, Combustion Optimisation and Operator Training
Provided on-site commissioning and combustion optimisation support for the main kiln burner system at the Temaclay plant in Tema, Ghana. Scope included inspection and verification of the gas valve train, burner management system, control cabinet installation, and field instrumentation. Activities covered functional testing of the natural gas valve station, adjustment of combustion air and fuel parameters, verification of the burner safety chain and DCS control interfaces, plus on-the-job training for the local operating team on safe burner operation, diagnostics, and maintenance procedures. The gas valve station and associated safety shut-off devices were commissioned according to applicable safety standards for gaseous fuel systems.
